Immigration Medical Examinations for Australia - Complex Cases and Gradings

This presentation will provide guidance on how Australian panel physicians should be grading the immigration medical examination, along with an overview of complex cases. The session will include half an hour for Q & A. 

Clinical Tuberculosis Hot Topics in the US

This session will cover clinical tuberculosis hot topics in the United States. We will review how exposure to and infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis can progress to TB disease. We will further discuss current tools and strategies used in the United States to optimize both drug-susceptible and drug-resistant TB diagnosis, and treatment.

Australia's Migration System

This session will provide an update on Australia’s migration program for 2024-25, including of visa pathways such as the Pacific Labour Mobility Scheme and the Refugee and Humanitarian Program. An update on the Australian Government’s review of the migration system will also be provided. There will be an update on the growth and expansion of the Australian panel network over the past 18 months, including information on Australia’s assurance findings, trends and common errors including of Departure Health Checks for refugee and humantarian visa holders.  An update on any recent or anticipated health policies to ensure that Australia continues to adequately screen for highest health risks will be provided.

The presentation will cover the fundamentals of medical ethics and discuss ethical and integrity considerations in immigration health screening such as informed consent, pre and post-test counselling and conflicts of interest. Includes a short break followed by a case study workshop.

This will be an interactive session on the doctor/patient consultation for IMEs. We will review different stages of the IME, including the chaperone question, interpreting services, identity checks and photograph requirements etc. There will be role-playing activities and case study discussions.
